A name carries everything: the gallery, the following, the country of origin, the price the last one sold for. It arrives before the work does, and it decides what we see.
So we take it away. Work is submitted without a name, curated without one, and hung without one. Collectors buy what moves them rather than what they recognise. Artists at the very start of a practice hang beside artists thirty years in, on the same wall, under the same conditions.
Six months after a work is shown, the artist decides what happens next — step forward, or stay behind the work for good.
